About

VANESSA A. SIMMONS

As a 42-year-old first-generation Ghanaian-American woman, wife of 18 years, and a work-from-homeschool mother of three children, life has always been pretty busy, and I plan to keep it that way. I like watching the sunset, snuggling during movies, walking our ultra-girly pitbull, and practicing jiu-jitsu with my husband and our children. Most of all, I love cooking delicious meals for our sometimes-vegan family and a good belly laugh. :)

FOUNDER OF THE WORLDWIDE
NORMALIZE BREASTFEEDING® MOVEMENT

200k+ ON SOCIAL PLATFORMS

In 2014, Ghanaian-American mother and photographer, Vanessa Simmons, founded, branded, and trademarked the Normalize Breastfeeding® movement to address the taboo of public breastfeeding in modern society. Her mission was to document diverse variations of normal infant feeding, across cultures and delivery methods of human milk.

Through Simmons' viral blog, her photographic speaking tour, philanthropy, and artistic inspiration; she mobilized and motivated thousands of women to share their breastfeeding photos on social media. After a very successful first year, she reached out to the Mayor of San Diego to proclaim the first International Day to Normalize Breastfeeding, in support of the worldwide anniversary event.

This work led Simmons' to author her first Amazon Bestseller and continue speaking at conferences across the United States about how to support families, without burnout, and close disparity gaps for generational impact.
